First Class Prep
Get ready for a great first day!
Starting a new activity can feel exciting, and sometimes a little intimidating. Our goal is to help every athlete feel prepared, welcomed, and confident from the moment they walk through the door.
Â
Use this guide to learn what your child should wear, what to bring, and what to expect during their first class at Blue Angels Gymnastics.
Athletes should wear comfortable, fitted clothing that allows them to move freely and safely.
Recommended
-
A gymnastics leotard
-
Fitted athletic shorts or leggings
-
A fitted T-shirt or athletic top
-
Bare feet unless otherwise directed by a coach
Please Avoid
-
Jeans, dresses, skirts, or restrictive clothing
-
Clothing with zippers, buttons, buckles, or large decorations
-
Loose or oversized shirts
-
Jewelry, watches, or dangling earrings
-
Socks or tights with feet, unless approved for a specific program
Loose clothing can catch on equipment or make it difficult for coaches to safely assist an athlete. Gymnastics fashion is less about making an entrance and more about keeping everyone attached to the apparatus in the intended manner.
What to Wear

Hair & Jewelry
Long hair should be pulled securely away from the athlete’s face before class. Ponytails, braids, and buns all work well. Please avoid large bows, clips, or hard hair accessories that may be uncomfortable during rolls, bridges, or other skills.

Remove all jewelry at home, prior to coming to gymnastics. Earrings, Necklaces and bracelets pose extreme safety risks to your athlete and our coaches.
Gym Floor Etiquette
The gym floor is an active training space. For everyone’s safety, only athletes and authorized staff may enter the training area unless a coach specifically invites a parent or guardian onto the floor.
Â
Athletes should:
-
Wait for their coach before entering the gym
-
Listen when coaches are speaking
-
Stay with their assigned group
-
Walk between activities unless instructed otherwise
-
Use equipment only with coach permission
-
Keep hands and feet to themselves
-
Encourage their teammates
-
Ask for help when they need it
We do not expect new athletes to know every rule on their first day. Coaches will guide them through the class and help them learn how the gym works.

Information for Parents and Guardians
Parents and guardians are welcome to observe from the bleachers in the gym.
Â
To help athletes stay focused and allow coaches to build a positive relationship with the class, please avoid:
-
Coaching from the viewing area
-
Calling your child away from the group
-
Entering the gym floor without permission
Â
Some children participate confidently right away. Others may need time to watch, warm up, or become comfortable with a new coach and environment. Both reactions are completely normal.
Â
Our coaches will encourage participation without forcing an athlete who feels overwhelmed or unsafe.
Every athlete begins somewhere. Whether your child walks in fearless, cautious, excited, or holding your hand with the grip strength of an industrial clamp, our team is here to help them feel welcome.
Â
At Blue Angels, the first goal is not perfection. It is helping each child feel safe, supported, and confident enough to take the next step.
